Purpose

This website serves three main purposes:

• To assist the disability community in Canada to organize around the disability-related policy agenda.
• To build the capacity of disability organizations in Canada to affect change.
• To facilitate research and knowledge dissemination about the effectiveness of Information and Communications Technologies as a tool for engaging the disability community in eDemocracy initiatives.

Working Structure

In May 2004, the head of the Dis-IT Research Alliance's eDemocracy Theme, Deborah Stienstra and her research team, invited the organizations who attended the Forum in March to select an individual from their organizations to sit on an advisory group that would direct the overall structure and content of the website. This website will be a useful tool for members of the disability community in Canada to communicate, share ideas and resources, and make strategic plans about their involvement in policy planning, development and implementation.

The website is divided into three sections based upon the areas of priority identified at the VSI forum in March 2004: Employment, Income, and Disability-Related Supports.
